ARTIST STATEMENT

My emotive abstract oil paintings explore the juxtaposition between light and darkness. Using a limited color palette allows me to focus on negative space and dramatic contrasts, which creates layers of depth in my work. Painting from a limited color palette enables me to emphasize the integral relationship of composition and tonal value in my work. Creating the atmospheric effect in my art evolves from intuitive blending and paint application.

I am continually inspired by nature, more specifically, the allure of clouds. I admire storms, they are unapologetic in their nature, chaos taking shape into something beautifully unrestrained. I feel deeply, thus creating an internal chaos of emotions. Melancholy, euphoria, and angst dwell within my soul. I find solace in storms, heartened by the knowledge that a force of nature reciprocates my feelings and comforts them. After the storm passes, light appears, in all its brilliance. A balance in nature, that in some sense, feels like hope. Post tenebras lux, after darkness I hope for light.

I am passionate about my art being expressive and authentic. Authenticity in my paintings expresses that I am unapologetic to my feelings and how I show them, for I feel deeply and without remorse. Ultimately, connecting on a deeper level with my audience. We all have emotions and feelings, we shouldn’t be ashamed of this or hide it, for who would we be without them? My paintings offer encouragement to express one’s self and reassurance that we are all connected to this beautifully heartbreaking human condition called life.
